Prison Bunks

The prison bunk is a standard piece of prison furniture. PSI can outfit the cells in any jail or prison facility with sleeping quarters and accessories such as grab bars / bar grilles. Single and double prison bunks, free standing or wall-mounted, these metal bunk beds simply fill function.

The freestanding single prison bunk has a pan of 10-gauge steel, which measures 27" by 80". The pan is perforated with eight 1" diameter holes for ventilation. Front and rear flanges are formed up 2", with a 1" hem to create a ½" thick section. The legs measure 18" in height, and have 2" by 2" 10-gauge formed steel angles. The bunk comes with a 2" by 2" 7-gauge steel plate with a ½" hole for bolting it to the floor. The anchors are not by PSI, but all joints are welded and ground smooth. Finishing for this metal prison bunk bed includes chemical degreaser and rust-inhibitive primer. There are many bunk options available, including an open front shelf, an under bunk drawer, and special order custom sizes. PSI's freestanding double prison bunk adds on where the single bunk left off. Each pan size and specification is the same as on the single bunk. The double bunk is held up by four legs, each with 2" by 2" 10-gauge formed steel angles. The legs measure 53" in height. PSI’s freestanding double bunk adds on where the single bunk left off. Each pan size and specification is the same as on the single bunk. The double bunk is held up by four legs, each with 2” by 2” 10-gauge formed steel angles. The legs measure 53” in height. Anchor plates are 2” by 2” 7-gauge steel with a ½” hole for bolting to the floor. Double bunk units are shipped knocked down by PSI, with field assembly required. All joints are welded and ground smooth. The finish is a chemical degreaser and a rust-inhibitive primer or powder coat finish. Options on this metal bunk bed are the same as for the single bunk.

The under bunk steel drawer provides storage in a jail cell. Formed 14-gauge steel comprises the bunk pan body, front and flanges for the slides. The slides, of 10-gauge steel, two per drawer, are welded to the underside of the bunk pan. The hasp is a 1” by 1” by 1/8” steel angle with a lock hole. It is welded to the face of the bunk pan so the angle slides through the slot in the front plate of the bunk drawer. The drawer pull is formed by a ½” lip at the underside of the drawer. Construction is fully welded. Likewise, the stop is a 2” by 2” by 3/16” steel angle, welded to the underside of the pan so the drawer cannot be removed. The under bunk steel drawer comes chemically degreased and coated with a rust-inhibitive primer. Options on this model include a larger compartment size, 24” by 23” by 10”, combinations locks and bolt on application.

PSI also makes wall mount single bunks. This piece of jail furniture has a 10-gauge steel bunk pan, with front and rear flanges formed up 2”, and a 1” hem to create a ¼” thick section. The pan size is 27” by 80”, and the pan is perforated with eight 1” holes for ventilation. 7-gauge steel end brackets are welded to the pan. The brackets measure 29” deep by 12” high, with 2” wall flanges. These hold the bunk pan 2” off the wall. Embed plates come two per bunk. Brackets are field welded to the 7-gauge 4” by 14” steel plates. The plates are cast into the wall with 10-gauge 2” by 4 ½” anchors. All joints are welded and ground smooth. The wall mount bunk comes with the same standard finish, and custom options are available.
